I use the deep litter method with my chicken business firm and information technology works perfectly - cipher flies, no odor. I don't remember that'due south going to piece of work with my ducks! It is better at present that my five Anconas have access to a large run and spend most of their day outdoors, only their house still ends upwards wet, messy, and attracts lots of flies.

How do y'all keep your duck housing clean? What type of litter practise y'all utilise and what does your routine maintainence look like?

Mine are already getting DE in their feed, but I could definitely add together it to the shavings.

I utilise food grade and find it at my local feed shop. I've seen it at tractors supply before.

Pelleted horse bedding? I would be afraid the ducks would swallow it! I've never actually seen it though...I'll cheque it out.

I use the deep pile method. Much too much piece of work whatsoever other way and it makes for ameliorate compost when I exercise make clean information technology out completely (3-iv times a twelvemonth). I practise shut them up in a small-scale surface area (house) at nighttime and like was said in another post, without water. They can become 8 or so hours without water.

I also use something called Sugariness PDZ and sprinkle it over any poo places before I add together bedding on elevation. Cuts down on the flies and the olfactory property and is safe. Information technology's used in horse stalls, primarily. It just takes a footling sprinkle so it lasts a long time. I also spray the area with Odoban (ecalyptus scented) that I buy at Home Depot. I recall that's more for me than for the ducks!

I utilise harbinger (non pine straw) in a confined run/pen that's fastened to their house then in their house I use pine shavings used for horse stalls. I used the deep pile method in both areas. I do employ the straw in their nest boxes in their house because I accept found it to be the most absorbent and easiest to remove, which must be done there about daily if you take any hopes of getting somewhat clean eggs.

I oasis't figured out what to do in their master run. It'south but clay... and poo....I don't have like shooting fish in a barrel access to haul gravel to information technology and gravel didn't piece of work at all in their pen. Nasty mess. Nosotros've been thinking almost sodding it. Might exist a waste of money and time.

I'm crazy, i tidy mine everyday... i apply a stall fork(like for horses) and clean out the debris and stir the bedding. All my birds get food/water overnight too. For at present i only have shavings and a mix of DE.

I am going to endeavour some pellets, i have them for the horses and i use them in the rabbits litter bins, just need to remember to grab that extra bag lol

Sherry, why non utilise pine straw over the clay, or small pebbles. At least they wouldnt exist standing in the dirt and poop and it is easy to hose downward.

The only way I accept found to eliminate a wing issue is bringing them inside to swallow. Leftover wet food attracts flys.

I as well hose downwardly any visible poop on tiptop of the pebbles/ pino straw three 10 day.
